For “city folks” like us, from Seattle, there is nothing like waking up to crowing roosters and calling turkeys and watch the sun coming up over the farm. We have explored the whole farm, including the hillside woods behind the farmhouse, and even shared meals with Jen, Louis, and their kids.

Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the accommodations. We have stayed at a number of Methow valley cabins with lower prices whose accommodations were more completely furnished and more attention was given to detail. There were only dirty Brillo pads for the dishes, only a partial roll of toilet paper (which we discovered late at night was the only one), no drawers for clothes or shelves and only 3 hangers for each couple, no curtains, no batteries in the fire alarms (concerning given wood stove and electric heaters), no dishwasher (not always expected but difficult without clean Brillo pads), no night tables, limited comfortable seating (1 small futon), several missing key kitchen items, and no key to the front door.

We spent a week on a farm! :) This was a magical experience for me and the kids, gave us a getaway from the city, and drilled home some important lessons about loving the land and appreciating where food comes from. I went with my 2, 6 and 9 year olds. Each day we walked the farm, visited the baby chicks, hung out with the sheep, and fed the pigs our compost vegetables. We had some fantastic chats with interns from various parts of the globe who come to Crown S to study sustainable farming. My daughter became enamored with a sheep with her same name and fed baby lambs with a bottle. I can't go to the Methow now without saving our scraps and visiting Crown S. Aside from the uniqueness of the whole experience, the guest house was quite comfortable for us. If you're looking to fall in love with a host family who is passionate about what they do on an amazing farm and create a memorable experience- especially for kids- I'd highly recommend a visit and stay with Crown S!

We learned that it takes an unbelievable amount of hard work and hard-earned knowledge to manage a farm where cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, turkeys, rabbits, ducks, and a horse are nurtured – and to grow the grass, hay, and grain they need to eat.

Too bad some people have to go out of their way to find something wrong.

We have stayed several times at the haycation house and have always been satisfied.

The cabin serves us as a base from which to explore the Methow and Okanogan Valleys and enjoy numerous hiking trails. It’s double the size that we need as a couple, so when we visit we are able to use the extra space to store my husband's photo gear; it’s the ideal size for a family with 2 kids.

We enjoy it so much that we go back regularly for 2 or 3 days at a time.

When cooking our meals and making lunches, we find the kitchen bright, spacious, and to our liking. It’s especially nice to enjoy meat, eggs, and vegetables grown right outside your door and to buy local items in the Farm Store like bread made from grain grown and milled just a few miles from Crown S Ranch.

My husband and I were first attracted to the Haycation at Crown S Ranch, because we wanted to experience a traditional, family-owned diversified farm – animals AND crops – up close. And we hoped to get to know committed farmers who follow organic principles with respect for their soil, their animals, and the food they provide to the community.

It was always a positive experience for us.
